On December 14, the FMBA’s Federal Center of Brain Research and Neurotechnology hosted the first RENS Congress. The Society was established in October 2018 and this year celebrates its 5th anniversary! For the 5 years, the Society has achieved significant success in the development of scientific and educational projects and promoting cooperation with leading Russian and foreign professional communities.
During the opening session, the welcome speech was delivered by Bagrat G. Alekian, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Russian Scientific Society of Specialists in X-ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment, Deputy Director for Science at A.V. Vishnevsky National Medical Research Center for Surgery who said, “At this Congress many issues of interest to specialists are discussed, the Society has done a great job for the 5 years of its existence, and today I would like to wish success and prosperity to all its members!”
The sessions were moderated by Dmitry V. Kandyba, President of the RENS, Ph.D, Chief Physician at I.I. Janelidze St. Petersburg Research Institute of Neurosurgery; Alexei L. Krivoshapkin, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of Department of Neurosurgery at European Medical Center, Head of Chair of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Department of Continuous Medical Education at Russian University of People’s Friendship; and Kirill Yu. Orlov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of Research Center for Endovascular Neurosurgery of the of the FMBA’s Federal Center of Brain Research and Neurotechnology and Director of the RENS.
As part of the scientific program, the participants delivered presentations and shared interesting clinical cases from their practice. The Congress included the sessions devoted to aneurysms, AVMs, stroke, etc. The Organizing Committee noted the relevance and scientific significance of each report to single out the best one at the end of the Congress. It was Vyacheslav Panarin’s presentation dedicated choosing the best technique of stent-assisted embolization of an aneurysm depending on bifurcation geometry.
The Committee also praised the reports delivered by Dmitry S. Kislitsin and Petr S. Sinitsyn, devoted to neurosurgical treatment of patients in the zone of Special Military Operation. Special attention was given to the report by Kirill Gorodnik, a neurosurgeon from the DNR, who devoted his speech to the provision of care to patients with vascular neurosurgical pathologies at the hospitals of Donetsk Clinical Territorial Medical Association. At the end of the Congress, Dr. Gorodnik was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his active participation and support of the event.
