RENS Stroke Course Nominee Has Taken Part in EXMINT Course in the Czech Republic

Timofey Vakin, a neurologist from Central Clinical Industrial Hospital in Magnitogorsk and a nominee of joint RENS/ESMINT Stroke course that took place on November 23-27 in Moscow, participated in the annual EXMINT Stroke course in the Czech Republic.

The pandemic has brought its changes into the conferencing paradigm, but despite all the complexities, the course took place online on January 25-29, 2021. EXMINT stroke courses are of great importance for the doctors treating this pathology since their goal is to enhance a practitioner’s skills and decision-making ability. The participants of such courses have a chance to learn from the best and become aware of the latest advancements and practices in treatment of the condition.

Timofey Vakin was the only doctor from Russia and he showed great results through both daily and final tests having gained 84 points with 60 being a cut score. “That’s a fitting testimony”, said K.Yu. Orlov, Director of RENS. “EXMINT courses continue not one but four weeks, so we wish Timofey the best success so he would successfully pass the final tests in March!”.

“I very much liked the way the course was organized considering it was an online event”, said Timofey Vakin. “The lectures touched all the aspects of ischemic stroke treatment, including clinical, organizational and fundamental ones. In particular, I’d like to point out those devoted to thrombus pathophysiology and composition and those on neurovisualization (especially CT-perfusion). Including lectures on neurovascular anatomy was another worthy addition. I do realize the subject is too complex to comprehend during a single lecture, but the speakers have been able to raise our interest and indicate the right resources to address (including neuroangio.org), so I express my personal gratitude to them for that!

The lectures were broadcasted life via YouTube, which was very convenient because all of them were recorded and made available for the participants. The participants could ask their questions right during the stream, and almost all of them were answered.

As for my feedback, I wish the organizers could have included videos of life operations in the course. I’d like to thank RENS for having granted me an opportunity to participate in the EXMINT course and for having organized the joint RENS/ESMINT course in Russia! I also would like to thank ESMINT for their organizational efforts! For me it was a pleasure to represent my country during this event, and, of course, I’ll be happy to take part in upcoming stroke courses!”.
