Neurosurgical Conference of Central Federal District Has Taken Place in Ivanovo

On May 26, Neurosurgical Conference of Central Federal District was held in Ivanovo at Ivanovo State Medical Academy.

The event was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Ivanovo neurosurgery and the 95th anniversary of the founder of endovascular neurosurgery, Academician F.A. Serbinenko. His methods of intravascular interventions are constantly being developed and improved by his students and followers.

The conference was organized by the RENS and attended by Academician Vladimir Krylov, Chief Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation; Valery Lazarev, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of Department of Neurosurgery at Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education; Leonid Likhterman, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Chief Researcher of N.N. Burdenko National Medical Research Center for Neurosurgery; and Dmitry Pichugin, Chief Freelance Neurosurgeon of the Department of Health of the Ivanovo Region.

The topics discussed at the conference included the current capabilities of endovascular surgery;endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke and arterial aneurysms; carotid angioplasty and stenting of the ICA; surgical treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy; giant aneurysms of the MCA, treatment of the pathologies of the main arteries of the head; treatment of cerebral aneurysms; neurointervention, surgical tactics to treat severe traumatic brain injuries.

Additionally, the participants discussed the prospects for the development of vascular neurosurgery in the Ivanovo region. The conference summoned not only doctors majoring in neurology, neurosurgery, X-ray endovascular diagnostics and treatment, but also graduates of the Ivanovo Medical Academy. It wasalso attended by practitioners from the Ivanovo and Kostroma regions, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, the Komi Republic and Moscow.

At the end of the conference, the organizers and participants visited the Lobanovo village of in the Kostroma region, where the dacha of Fyodor Serbinenko is located to lay flowers at the memorial plaque and plant an apple orchard. Each planted tree had a name plaque attached to it, including one for Kirill Orlov, a surgeon who carries out the most complex endovascular operations for treatment of cerebrovascular diseases at Federal Center for Brain Research and Neurotechnologies.
