RENS members at EPOS-2022 symposium in Moscow

Members of Russian Endovascular Neuro Society (RENS) hosted a panel on relevant problems of intracranial pathology management at the 6th Complications of Peripheral Endovascular Procedures (EPOS-2022) symposium on July 8, 2022 in Moscow. The event was organized by Young Interventional Radiologists and Endovascular Specialists Association (YIRESA).
As leading Russian specialists in endovascular neurosurgery, RENS members shared their experience in solving challenging clinical problems. The following reports were presented:
• Methods to increase the radicality of embolization by Kirill Orlov,
Director of RENS, Head of Research Center of Endovascular Neurosurgery at the Federal Center of Brain Research and Neurotechnologies (FCBRN) of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia (FMBA), PhD (Moscow)
• Methods to control intraoperative bleeding by Andrey Petrov, Head of Neurosurgery Unit #3, Lead Researcher at Cerebrovascular Surgery Department, Neurosurgeon at A.L. Polenov Neurosurgical Institute, PhD (St. Petersburg)
• Glycoprotein receptor blockers for thromboembolic complication management in X-ray endovascular occlusions of cerebral aneurysms by Mikhail Volodyukhin,
Head of X-ray Surgery Department at the Interregional Clinical Diagnostic Center, Doctor of Science (Kazan)
• Prevention and management of intraoperative cerebral aneurysm ruptures by Vadim Berestov, Neurosurgeon at FCBRN, FMBA (Moscow)
• Ischemic complications in intraoperative and early perioperative periods by Andrey Petrov, Head of Neurosurgery Unit №3, Lead Researcher at the Cerebrovascular Surgery Department, Neurosurgeon at A.L. Polenov Neurosurgical Institute, PhD (St. Petersburg)
• Dissections and dissecting aneurysms in brachiocephalic arteries: prevention and management by Nikolay Strelnikov, Neurosurgeon at FCBRN, FMBA (Moscow)
• Case study: Stent retriever detachment by Dmitry Kandyba,
Deputy Director on Clinical Services at I.I. Dzhanelidze St. Petersburg Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, PhD (Moscow)
Reports by RENS members excited a lively professional interest both among the audience of the panel and other participants and guests of the forum.
RENS members also participated in discussions on prevention and management of the complications occurring during endovascular procedures and the nuances of teamwork in operating room setting to minimize risks for patients.
“We at RENS greatly appreciate exchanging experiences with our colleagues in general, and young specialists from YIRESA in particular. First of all, it is an opportunity to pass our knowledge and skills to a new generation of doctors and ensure professional succession and cooperation. And second, the symposium gave us a welcoming and benevolent environment allowing us to discuss relevant issues with our colleagues and tackle challenging problems, while also encouraging professional growth and proficiency”, noted Kirill Orlov.
